Red, I am thinking it is liking it where I planted it ... one vine is long enough to wrap around the end of the garden and start running west down the long side, the other vine is running west on the other side of the bed LOL

I'm a little late to the party. I'm growing "Old Time Cornfield Pumpkin" that a SSE member from OK sent me seeds for. In fact he has sent seeds twice so decided I should grow it and see what it is like. It is an heirloom/op variety. Jay

Squirrels didn't get the Red Kuri, instead, the heat did. Poor lil fella rotted. Oh well, heat is breaking so now back to regular summer weather. If I can get rid of the darn Cucumber beetles before they destroy all of my vine crops, then perhaps I'll have a few pumpkins to pie.

I've got some Red Kuri planted. Trying to remember what else I planted. lol Should have marked the hills. I know for certain I have Boston Marrow, and Gold Nugget and Australian Butter. I think the other hills are Sweet Dumpling and Lakota. One hill will be mystery squash because I don't recall what I planted there. lol Oh well, I guess Ill be surprised; that is if the dang SVB's don't get everything.

Ha, two years ago we had watermelons come in a week before Halloween. We had a fall festival at the church and I gave away the smaller oines. No, the musqueee de provence won't work now, too late, but did plant the other kinds in the hopes of getting something good. It's been an unusual start for a fall garden. Days near 100, and then heavy showers the last couple of days. The plants don't know what to think. Some of the seedlings that have been babied for the last two months are gone-- have lost half of the first group set out.

My moschatas are just starting to run. Musquee du Provence is the biggest and most vigorous so far. Pretty leaves with the markings on them, too.

DirectSunlight,
My mother living in NC couldn't get butternuts or acorns because of the slugs and snails. She finally got a technique that worked.
Surround the squash fruit with a layer of crushed egg shell and put a tinfoil cone collar on the stem above the fruit with the narrow end towards the main vine. For the collar, make it about 4" and turn back to the outside the flared edge to make a bit of a lip.
Good luck! ;D
