My Old Fashioned TN Vining Pumpkin and Long Pie Pumpkin vines are starting to run! The Lebanese Bush Marrow are getting Bushy! I'm hoping that the squirrels are too busy eating my Large Blue tomatoes to notice when the vines produce fruit.

The Lebanese Bush Marrow are getting Bushy! Sorry to hear about the maters. Guess the squirrels have some free radicals they need some anti-oxidants for.

Well then after they ate all the maters, they kept knocking the containers over! I moved the containers to another part of the yard and this morning, they are all upright? Perhaps it was just in a convenient location next to the neighbour's garage? When they jumped down they knocked over my plants and of course knocked the tomatoes off the plants. Now they couldn't just leave the tomatoes on the ground unused, now could they?

I grew the small sugars and tried native Seminole pumpkins! Since I live in Seminole Ok. Why not I thought. The small sugars are growing great in between my rows of dried dead corn. ( I now call the corn my protection crop!) I usually dry or can those and my my grand kids love harvesting and painting them. The Seminole pumpkins are kin to butternuts and they are stinkin HUGE! I guess drought ridden Oklahoma is ok for them. can't wait to harvest those for the first time! lol my noles were tiny.lol I'm sorry to hear that!

The vines on the musquee de provence had died back enough to go ahead and pick them. The smaller one was about 8 pounds, the bigger one 17.2 The cushaw was under 7. Well, also the squash bugs also came back with a vengeance, figured it would be good to clear out anything that was ready. Just when you think you've got them figured out-- time to change their names to squashed bugs.

My stuff is dying back. Dad will pick my two biggest musquees tomorrow the 2 smaller ones won't get ripe before the vine dies. There are 4 more Tahitians ready to pick, their vine is the healthiest so there could be another one or two make it. That makes at least 5 good squash on the tahitian hill. Penn dutch had 1 good one and maybe 2 others that may or may not be ripe enough. The mixtas were a failure as was Butternut Violina this year. In the 2012 game of musical chairs there were only 2 chairs out.

Have such off and on weather this year that I did not get an abundance of pumpkins! Seem to have just one of each kind. I do have a Big Max that seems to keep growing but the other ones either have the vines that have stopped blooming or they are just not producing more at this time. Kind of disappointed because I love growing pumpkins but will probably can some of the puree from the few I did get for pies later on.

so we like thetahitians the best? Definitely by a wide margin and you'll need a wiiiiiide margin for those super sized vines. Not knocking the musquees though, if you have to have punkin shaped squash they are the way to go.

I have 2 Big Max that aren't all that big. Planted 2 plants and they started out gangbusters but only ended up with 2 punkins'; one is the size of a smallish medicine ball and the other is the size of 3 basketballs put together. Sure was wanting a 200 pounder.
Picked 5 little pie ones yesterday. That's all folks! For this year, anyhow.

Picked 4 musquees, several tahitians, 1 Illinois, a green cushaw the size of a softball. Some were picked a bit early as they were totally wrapped up in stink bugs and most of the vines were dead. Got to go wash them now. Also picked about half a gallon of Santa Fe Grande chile peppers...and 3 ginormous green caterpillers(now fertilizer).

Best year than in three years all because I didn't waste any space on maximas. Next year will be even better when I don't wast any on mixtas. Btw southernexposure.com for Tahitians. I hate to say it but they have a better record of you getting what you order than Baker's Creek. Just not as big a selection. Their Mule Team and Cherokee Purple mater seeds are definitely from a beter strain.

Nice group Gcg.
I have a couple PDC's on the vine, a few butternuts on the vines. I also have either an acorn or a carnival and what I think is a fairy tale punkin on the vine.
This morning I saw that rolly polly's (sow bugs) were eating into the skin of the fairy tale. I'm gonna put one of those nylon woven bags that limes come bundled in over it to see if that keeps them out.

I used the last of the 2nd batch of baccy spray yesterday on some LF Plant bug nymphs. Haven't seen any SVBs or SVB eggs for several days now. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY!!!! Needed to empty the pressure sprayer anyway to give everything a dose of BT yesterday evening. Had some leaf-roller caterpillars making some damage and have killed a few plants. Needed to give them some indigestion.
Very cool on the PDCs! Good luck with the new sowing.
