An interesting morning for sure. First day of school. We have one that's a pro at first day of school now. Middle child this is the first - first day of school. Late night with "can't sleep - too excited". Questions, questions, questions about what to expect. Mommy was going to take her this morning and she'll ride bus then on out. Got oldest child fed, dressed and on bus without incident. New clothes and shoes sparkling in the morning sun. No tears, just a catch in the throat. He's growing up. Got her fed and dressed without incident except for the 3 grains of oatmeal she dropped on her leg and couldn't be borne for the 60 seconds it took to dampen a paper towel to wipe off. Just lots of questions. Mighty snazzy in new jumper outfit and new shoes. Long pony tail swinging back and forth. My wife and I would catch each other's gaze occasionally. Funny, I don't remember my wife's eyes being so round and liquid. Girlie passed out kisses and hugs and she and Mommy went out to get in the car. A few minutes later: Dad! Car won't start! Criminy. I suspect I know what the problem is. Nissan has this quaint little practice of using rubber plugs on the brake pedal shaft which trip 2 "button" sensors when the brake is released. Essentially when you press the brake pedal, it releases the sensors and brake lights come on. When a Nissan gets older, these rubber plugs get brittle and crack and fall out. This had happened, and I had fixed it by putting some disks glued over the holes in the brake pedal shaft 2 weeks ago. I figured one had come off. Nope. I got a neighbor who had just gotten back from taking their last child to school to give me a jump start. Then I adjusted the sensors for a while with no good result. Then I realized the brake pedal had just a little more play than it should. Sure enough the brake fluid reservoir was a little low. Filled it and walla! Mommy and daughter piled in the car and we said more good-byes with a "Whatever, I gotta go to school!". Last sight was Mommy backing the car out of the drive with lower lip trembling. I don't much care for the first day of school at the moment. For some reason the coffee keeps catching in my throat on the way down. The good news is: only have to go through the first - first day of school for the last time, in 2 years! The manual forgot to state the babies getting older sucks!

After all our summer heat ..... got up to 103 here in SE PA which is UNUSUAL for here!..... Fall is "in the air" at last. We had 3 storm fronts move thru last nite...thunder..lightening... heavy rain... The temp. dropped into the 60s & today is a beauty with Low humidity. I think we've "turned the corner" and sliding into Fall. Got my Fall garden all planted...mustard greens, snow peas, sugar snaps, lettuce, radishes and LOTS of Chinese cabbage (Bok Choy) for the wifey. LarryD

Watching that same rain pass quickly over to the west. I expect it's going to Penny's house Then watched a large jet come in for a landing. There was lots of air traffic when we lived on Lake Erie, but most of the flights that came that close to the house were small craft. Here, we get to see all sizes and shapes (choppers, jets, historic planes). Great Fun!

Well, the Tornado watch is over. We survived without much ado. But a section of highway is closed this morning due to Debris. And thousands are without power. Still, it could have been much worse.
Penny hasn't stopped by? I"m hoping she's okay.

Good morning! Blue, glad you are ok form the tornado. Those are scary.
We're getting ready for the hurricane again today, trying to tie down, nail down stuff. We just finished a big hoop house and we're going to try and reinforce it. Not worried so much about anything except high winds and tornados that those storms produce in these parts when a hurrican comes that close to us.
Enjoy your day, everyone.
