Apios?? What is that? I keep forgetting your in OH LOL We are so close, yet so far Because I live in about the space of an average county-jail cell. I need to keep stuff out of my little space. Trudi Davidoff and Robin Marble have been where I tuck away most of my seeds. Both a these women run pretty good seed banks, if they have any bad habits at all it is they both want to increase food Independence. Trudi seems to prefer more compact garden stuff. Robin runs more to collecting (they both give away) bulkier food crops. One of my ongoing projects is to get some of the half-tame food crops for Robin. Apios americana is a legume that makes a potato-ish looking spud that used to grow east of the Missus at the boundary of woodlots. it was yummy enough that it has been picked nearly to extinction. I'm slowly getting examples for me and Robin to do grow outs for her give aways. I've been homeless and Robin is one of the more resolute at getting really poor folks the stuff to make their own gardens.

Wendy, I don't have a foot print in the social networks. I dunno if Robin Marble does. She's been the mentor of a newsgroup on yahoo titled: need4seed [@ yahoogroups.com] Getting apios seed and tuber stocks is proving to be a significant pain in my bupkis. The elevn month wait for tubers that were (already) ready when I ordered them is just one example. An' you thought I was just a pretty tree...

Robin Marble does have a footprint on social media. I can't--won't open most of it.
Sandy is supposed to arrive Tuesday.

I usualy try to get the autumnal clean up buried in the garden, and fill the compost bin with a winters kitchen scraps (to be added in the spring).
This year its looking like everything is going to compost bin and I'll till it in, in the spring...

Woke up at 05:00 with my usual electric jolt. No, its not an actual electric shock, but thats as close an analog as I can think of.
Leaves me on the bed wondering what I can do till the sun comes up. Watching Mad Money is getting passing old.
I've had my puppies. Loved them. Well I loved them a little less when they barfed on the bed, but I loved them still.
Wish the rain would let up. I could get the last of the gardening done, I'm wanting to do with another couple days sun...

The wind is still out of the wrong quarter for it to be a true nor'easter, but it is slowly picking up. No little old ladies riding her bicycle through the air, for Sandy foreshadowing either.
I'll keep my trees that are still out of doors up on their low benchs. Sitting in puddles is worse than any peril of falling 18".
All the little christian kids came by Friday to trick-or-treat. Wednesday seems to be passed over for 'that special day of days'.
In my day, a good trick was an egg or a roll of toilet paper up in your tree. Now, in my fathers day, it was to steal and re-assemble your car on somebody elses roof. In my grandfathers day it was to hitch up the team and steal all your neighbors outhouses. Or just take them to the parade ground and set fire to them there...
Halloween just aint what it used to be.

Spoke to Sister-In-Law (who lives) in lower Manhattan, one block outside of madatory evacuation area.
If you live above about the sixth floor, or are on the windward side of your building, the next 48 hours may not be your funnest time ever spent in NYC.
As evidenced by the crane that came apart on the 90th floor in the wind.
Most of the Manhattan residents are competeing with hospitality and hospital employees who have been ordered to remain on the island, "just in case".

Audry is a tough old bird. Scaring her off of manhattan would take something more than your average motorcycle gang.
That the tunnels and subways have flooded, is going to be a bigger problem (to fix) than the news services are likely to tell. Me in my Kreskin-the-Psychic turban guess' it'll be a week or more to drain them out.
The old service tunnel system in Chicago got breached a few years ago. it took them months to unscrew that pooch.

Robin sent me a little bundle of lingonberry and the cutest little sweetfern I could imagine. A real nice treat.
If I can keep this sweetfern (comptonia peregrina) alive it will (all by itself) convince the straights its pot (its not) and the hippies will hope its pot (its still not). And it'll keep me entertained for all of its life.
So far, being out of power due to Sandy is about the worst I've heard. Here is hoping everyone made it through the storm safely.

Its 40°F and overcast this morning. I need to get to market today. If I can keep moving after store is done, I need to get the last of yard waste into beds or on compost pile.
I should'a done more yard clean-up, but went with Sapling-In-Cheif instead and we picked up a meat band saw.
I don't know if this year was the final act at Wisteria. But it could be because she has signed on a campground of her own.
